An exhibition hosted by the University Library of Heidelberg, in co-operation with the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, University of Heidelberg has opened to the public and will run until the 16th. of February 2014.

Titled here, death rejoices in teaching the living* – anatomy yesterday and today, the exhibition traces the history of human anatomy in Heidelberg from its’ beginnings in 1805 until the present day. It features a combination of text, historical drawings, educational objects, instruments and many of my photos recently shot during a long-term project on body donation.

*Translated from the latin phrase “hic gaudet mors succurrere vitae”, here, death rejoices in teaching the living is an inscription commonly found in autopsy and anatomy theaters.
