Play to hear Mumi talking about this photo.

“…I’m not exactly sure of the circumstances around this photo but I remember where it was made and why. it was in 1977, I was 12 years old and it was the first year in which I stopped being able to walk. as far as I can remember, the photo was made for my disabled person ID. can’t remember who, but someone forced me to wear this tie so that I’d look nice for the picture. it was made in Frankenthal where I spent my second childhood. it was in the same year in which we’d been on holiday in Turkey and found I couldn’t walk anymore. it was after a long and exhausting car journey in which I was constantly climbing in and out of the car – I couldn’t walk very well. I’d constantly trip over the smallest things and was often losing my balance. I could only stand up with the aid walls and chairs. 3 days into the holiday I climbed out out of the car and realised I couldn’t (walk) anymore. that was the last year…”

I’m really enjoying this project Philip. It’s turning into a fascinating personal insight into someone’s life. Very varied and insightful. I’m looking forward to it all being amalgamated into a complete presentation – do you have plans for that?!

  2. Philip says:

thanks Steve. yes, it’s becoming quite an involving project. I’m not quite sure how I’ll be presenting it yet…still agonising over that. I’d like present things in a non-linear way. not like a slickly edited movie or slideshow but a format that somehow reflects what it is like to get to know someone over time…
